Scouting is definitely a family affair for Sunol’s
Hoxie family. Galen Hoxie received the highest honor; the Eagle
Scout Award, at a Court of Honor ceremony on May 19. Galen’s
Eagle Scout project was the refurbishing and erection of a
salvaged, antique, wooden, counter balanced flag pole that
rises admirably in the Sunol community park.
Galen’s father, Lowell Hoxie, a scouting volunteer for
over 30 years, was one of several volunteers who received the
2005 Silver Beaver Award. The Boy Scout of America’s
National Court of Honor presents the award to those who have
given exceptional service to youths in scouting.
Lowell has volunteered as a scout leader, scoutmaster, and
troop committee member for various packs, troops and teams
in the Twin Valley District of the San Francisco Bay Area Council.
He has also been a Unit Commissioner, Assistant District Commissioner,
merit badge counselor and member-at-large. As Friends of Scouting
zone coordinator he chartered five wards of the Pleasanton
Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Lowell
has been a volunteer cook for several events and has fed thousands
of scouts and their families. Please join me in commending
these two for their extra special efforts in scouting. Knowing
Lowell’s wife and Galen’s mother Adrienne, she
is very proud of them.
More Scouting news-- If you have a child that may be interested
in joining Sunol’s Boy Scout Troop 912, they meet every
Monday at 7:30 p.m. in the Sunol Glen School cafeteria.
Mark those calendars for June 10. It’s the Sunol Glen
Community Clubs annual Spring Fling. The event this year is
a Poker tournament, but if cards are not your game there will
be live and silent auctions, a buffet dinner and live music
and dancing. Items to be auctioned include a weeks vacation
in Lake Tahoe, a weeks vacation in a Gold Country Cabin, dinner
for four at Girasole and the Bighorn Grill, a weekend in Tiburon,
an autographed movie poster by former Sunolian Clint Eastwood
and tickets to Disneyland, Great America, Marine World, Bonfante
Gardens and the Monterey Bay Aquarium.
This fun adults-only event is purely for fun and no poker
playing experience is necessary. In fact instructors will be
on hand to help give tips to the beginners before the action
begins and there will be no cash prizes awarded only a trophy
and bragging rights for being the towns best poker player.
The fun begins at 6:00 p.m. at the Sunol Event Center and admission
is $35.00 per person. For more information please contact coordinators
Lisa Ball at 925-862-0675, Lori Nielsen at 925-862-2970 or
